Coca-Cola – John Pemberton, an unsuccessful pharmacist, intended Coca-Cola to be pain medication at first. He was actually a man with a morphine addiction who wanted to create an alternative to the opiate, so he put cocaine in the drink (which was legal then). After people started complaining that the drink was too addictive, cocaine was removed from the ingredient list, and the soft-drink became one of the most popular brands in the world.
